Our Mission

       The Library Media program at Bishop John J Snyder High school is committed to

• supporting and enhancing educational goals as outlined in the school's mission and curriculum;
• developing and sustaining in children the habit and enjoyment of reading and learning, and the use of libraries throughout their lives;
• offering opportunities for experiences in creating and using information for knowledge, understanding, imagination and enjoyment;
• supporting all students in learning and practicing skills for evaluating and using information, regardless of form, format or medium, including sensitivity to the modes of communication within the community;
• providing access to local, regional, national and global resources and opportunities that expose learners to diverse ideas, experiences and opinions;
• organizing activities that encourage cultural and social awareness and sensitivity;
• working with students, teachers, administrators and parents to achieve the mission of the school;
• proclaiming the concept that intellectual freedom and access to information are essential to effective and responsible citizenship and participation in a democracy;
• promoting reading and the resources and services of the school library to the whole school community and beyond.

Services and Policies

• Media Specialist will provide instruction and help in the use of library information, materials and equipment including but not limited to:
• books (fiction and nonfiction)
• magazines
• zines
• newspapers
• VHS & DVDs
• Audiobooks
• audiovisual equipment
• online subscription databases
• computers and software, and
• printing capabilities.

• Media Specialist will provide help and resources for assignments and personal information needs.

• Students are responsible for all items checked out under their name.

• Students need to return all borrowed materials on time, or they will be charged a late fee of $0.10 per day.

• A one time renewal of most items is permitted.  A renewal is not possible on any item being reserved.

• Checkout Periods:

• All students must present a pass to use the library during lunch or a class period.

• Students are required to sign in and out at the front desk.

• The Media Center is for reading, individual studying, finding books, and research ONLY!  NO loitering will be permitted.

• No gum, drinks, or food.

• Please speak quietly in a manner fitting for a library setting.

• Please respect others.
