The National Honor Society is the leader among organizations that promote recognition of high school students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Throughout the school year, members of the Bishop Snyder chapter of NHS participate in monthly meetings, academic gatherings, and service to the school and community.
At the end of the first semester, sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have attended BJS for at least one semester and who have a cumulative, weighted grade point average of at least 3.75 are invited to apply for membership in the Bishop John J. Snyder Chapter of the National Honor Society. Each candidate will complete and submit a Student Activity Form. Selection is determined by the Faculty Council, guided by the Faculty Adviser, with all final decisions falling to the principal.
A 3.75 GPA must be maintained through graduation. If a member’s GPA falls below 3.75, the member will be placed on probation for the following quarter. If a 3.75 GPA is not achieved at the end of the probationary quarter, membership is revoked and the student is dismissed from the organization. A senior member whose GPA is below 3.75 at the end of the final quarter will not receive NHS designation at Senior Awards or at graduation. Members who fall below the selection standards of integrity of character, leadership, and service may also be dismissed.

Our chapter of the Spanish Honor Society, Father Felix Varela, was introduced to Bishop John J. Snyder High School in 2006. The members of our society are students of exceptional qualities. They take on various leadership roles, are dedicated to their studies, and have a love for the Spanish culture.
Acceptance into the society is based on the following criteria:
- Students must maintain an honor average in the study of Spanish for at least three semesters.
- Also, they must have character, cooperation, honesty, service and commitment for others.
There will be an induction ceremony held at school. Parents, administrators and candidates are invited to attend.
Parts of their responsibilities are to tutor students that are in need of assistance. The sponsor will choose the candidate the student will help and how frequently he/she will spend time tutoring.

| It is an honor to be a member of the French National Honor Society at Bishop John J. Snyder High School. This is in part due to the high academic standards and dedicated service of those who are considered for the induction ceremony into the organization. For consideration into the Société Honoraire de Français, students must be enrolled in a Frenchy Class beyond the second year level at the time of selection. Candidates must have and maintain a 3.5 GPA or above in French and have the recommendation of the French teacher while maintaining the strict academic standards. |
