National Honor Society

The Bishop John Snyder Chapter of the National Honor Society is an organization designed to honor the students of our school and to provide a service to our community. Members of the National Honor Society will represent themselves and our school as an elite group of thinkers and leaders.

Members will participate in a variety of service projects, community affairs, and academic gatherings.

To be eligible for membership a candidate must:
1. Be a member of those classes (sophomore, junior, senior) designated as eligible in the chapter bylaws. (Freshmen [ninth graders] are not eligible.)

2. Candidates must have been in attendance at the school the equivalent of one semester. (Some candidates may be ineligible for induction because of the semester ruling. Many students, including students of military parents, are required to move with parents or guardians that have transferred in their work. The present school principal should seek a recommendation from the previous school principal pursuant to the candidate's selection. On the basis of the recommendation of the previous principal, the Faculty Council may waive the semester regulation.)

3. The national minimum standard for scholarship shall be a cumulative, weighted scholastic grade point average of at least 3.75.

4. Candidates shall then be evaluated on the basis of service, leadership, and character.

5. Each eligible candidate will fill out Student Activity Form to state their case for membership. This is not, nor should it be, considered an application.

The selection of each member to the chapter shall be by a majority vote of the Faculty Council, guided by the Faculty Advisor, with all final decisions falling to the principal.

Spanish Honor Society

Our chapter of the Spanish Honor Society, Father Felix Varela, was introduced to Bishop John J. Snyder High School in 2006. The members of our society are students of exceptional qualities. They take on various leadership roles, are dedicated to their studies, and have a love for the Spanish culture.

Acceptance into the society is based on the following criteria:

  • Students must maintain an honor average in the study of Spanish for at least three semesters.
  • Also, they must have character, cooperation, honesty, service and commitment for others.

There will be an induction ceremony held at school. Parents, administrators and candidates are invited to attend.

Parts of their responsibilities are to tutor students that are in need of assistance.  The sponsor will choose the candidate the student will help and how frequently he/she will spend time tutoring.

French National Honor Society - Société Honoraire de Français
It is an honor to be a member of the French National Honor Society at Bishop John J. Snyder High School. This is in part due to the high academic standards and dedicated service of those who are considered for the induction ceremony into the organization. For consideration into the Société Honoraire de Français, students must be enrolled in a Frenchy Class beyond the second year level at the time of selection. Candidates must have and maintain a 3.5 GPA or above in French and have the recommendation of the French teach while maintaining the strict academic standards.
