Academics

Bishop John J. Snyder High School is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and a member of the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA). All faculty members are state certified teachers who are committed to excellence in Catholic education and half hold a Master’s Degree or higher. The ratio of students to teachers at BJS is 15:1.

Bishop John J. Snyder High School is devoted to educating students in a safe, compassionate Catholic environment. Our curriculum prepares students for college while offering them challenging opportunities for enrichment. A learning strategies program is also available to provide assistance to students who demonstrate an ability to perform academic tasks, but are unable to express their potential due to diagnosed and documented learning difficulties. We provide a quality Catholic education which allows each student to excel spiritually, artistically and academically.

We offer a wide variety of Advanced Placement courses (we are a member of the College Board), honors courses and electives. AP and honors courses enable students to earn additional quality points towards their cumulative GPA. Students will receive 1 additional quality point for an Advanced Placement course and .5 point for an honors class. The current quality point scale has been adopted to ensure that our GPAs match the State University System’s guidelines. Students who receive a grade of D or F will not earn additional quality points. Students must maintain a minimum of a 2.0 cumulative weighted GPA and earn 28 credits in order to graduate.

Our campus provides wi-fi internet connectivity which is compatible with our BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) technology policy allowing students to choose the device best suited to their learning style. This policy includes iPads, Kindles, Nooks, Chrome books, laptops and, of course, textbooks!

In keeping with diocesan guidelines for graduation, all students are required to complete 25 hours of Christian Service each year of attendance at Bishop John J. Snyder High School.

Juniors and Seniors may be eligible for membership in the Bishop John J. Snyder chapter of the National Honor Society. [Click here for more information.]
