School Counseling

The college application process begins Freshman year; although earnest research and efforts become a priority during Junior year.  By the time a student is a Senior at Bishop Snyder High School, they are expected to be responsible for their college application process or other post secondary options.

School Counseling sponsors College Night and Financial Aid Night in the Fall for Juniors, Seniors, and parents.  Additionally, college admissions representatives from both public and private schools visit our students throughout the year.  Students are required to pre-register in order to be excused from class.

Students are encouraged to coordinate campus tours at colleges and universities.  During Junior or Senior year, if a college or university tour is scheduled on a school day, students can be excused – up to three times. The main office must be notified in advance in order to properly document the absence.

Getting Ready for College

We are proud to partner with Naviance, a web-based service that students can use to research colleges and careers.  This tool gives students the ability to create profiles that will point them to careers suited to their skills, take personality tests, and help them discover the best colleges and universities for their interests. They also have access to the college application guide and can complete college applications and request and track official BJS transcripts, letters of recommendation, access scholarship and financial aid information and so much more.

Naviance allows us to send documents electronically to colleges and universities, virtually guaranteeing delivery.  Students and alums graduating 2014 and after can request official transcripts be sent to colleges and universities electronically using Naviance.

Alums graduating before 2014 should use Transcript Request Form – Alums to notify School Counseling of the request. .

If a college application requires faculty/administration recommendations, students must complete the Teacher Recommendation Form.  Bishop Snyder High School administration and faculty appreciate a minimum fourteen day courtesy request in order to fulfill recommendation requests.

Students can check Naviance or visit the School Counseling Office to get information about scholarships, including Florida Bright Futures. Students and  parents are strongly encouraged to discuss financial needs with prospective colleges and universities and to attend College and Financial Aid Nights.

Graduates of Bishop Snyder High School have been accepted into all of the state university system schools as well as many prestigious private and public institutions outside of the State of Florida.
